Power Verse…… “Stay on good terms with each other, held together with love. Be ready with a meal or a bed when it's needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without even knowing it!" Hebrews 13:1, 2  "The Message" Translation

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the pups and nailed the sign to his fence post. As he was driving the last nail into the post he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of a little boy.
“Mister,” the boy said hesitantly, “I want to buy one of your puppies.”
“Well” said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat from the back of his neck, “these puppies come from fine parents and will be quit costly to buy.” There was a sad silence as the boy dropped his head for a moment, mentally searching for a solution. He reached deep into his pocket, pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer more in hope than confidence. “I’ve only got a small amount, but is that enough to take a look?”
“Sure,” said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. “Here, Dolly!” he called. Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur. The little boy’s eyes lit up as he pressed his face against the chain link fence. His delight was obvious.

As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse. Slowly another little ball appeared, struggled down the ramp. Then is a somewhat awkward manner the little pup began hobbling towards the others, doing the best he could to catch up. This was obviously the runt of the litter.

“I want that one,” the little boy shouted, pointing to the runt.

The farmer knelt down at the boy’s side and said, “Son, you don’t want that puppy He will never be able to run and play with you like the other dogs would.

With that, the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a special shoe. Looking back up at the farmer he said, “You see, sir, I don’t run too well myself, and will need someone who understands.”

Friends, the world is full of people who need someone who understands. We are surrounded by people who are disabled – disabled by loneliness, old age, family strife, addictions; by those battling terminal illnesses, and people struggling to make ‘ends meet.’
Make a conscious decision this week to do something positive for someone you know who is disabled in one way or another. Visit them, phone them, e.mails them, write to them letting them know you care. You’ll be amazed at the impact this act of kindness will have, both on them and yourself. Also, remember them in your prayers.

Prayer…..Lord, I am reminded that as the sun rises every morning and as the waves roll in unceasingly, so Your love is just as unending. Friendships come and go, opportunities ebb and flow, but Your love and care for me is as constant as the seasons, and as endless as the heavens. For that, O Lord, I am forever grateful.
