WEEKLY POWER SURGE…

with John Young

Build you week on a solid foundation, a Bible verse, an inspirational thought and a positive prayer.

26th January 2008

Power Verse…… Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life." (Philippians 4: 6, 7 The Message translation)

I don’t know where you are today, but I have a sneaky suspicion that you, like me, might have a few uninvited intruders crowding into your life and you would welcome some divine reinforcements. If so, don’t hesitate to call for help. Tell your Heavenly Father you are running out of hope, and energy and ideas……and that your need is “not……words taught by human wisdom, but…….those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words……For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2: 13, 16)

You may have cancer, so what can you do? You dial Heaven 999 and tell God you have an emergency need. “I have cancer Lord, and I need wisdom.” And at that very moment He will begin to make deliveries.

Amazingly, you will soon discover that your greatest enemy is not the disease, but subtle, slippery feelings of despair, the thief of peace. So change your mindset, start to exercise your faith and begin to rely on God’s daily delivery service to get you through, one day at a time.

I read of an enthusiastic Christian believer by the name of Don Richardson, who lost his battle with cancer, and the following piece was distributed at his memorial service.

Cancer is limited……

It cannot cripple love..........

                  It cannot corrode faith..........

                                 It cannot eat away peace..........

                                                  It cannot destroy confidence..........

                                                                  It cannot kill friendship..........

                                                                                 It cannot shut out memories..........

                                                                It cannot silence courage..........

                                                 It cannot invade the soul..........

                                It cannot reduce eternal life..........

              It cannot quench the Spirit..........

It cannot lessen the power of the resurrection..........

You cannot deny that you have the disease, but you can deny despair from taking control. Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances, call on God for His daily delivery of wisdom, strength and grace. But more…..His peace. Some of the final words Jesus left with His disciples, which are appropriate for us today, were these…….

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27.)

Each morning, with God’s help, slam the door on despair. If you don’t, it will slip in and rob you. And you will soon find a peace missing.

Prayer…..Lord, I’m finding life tough at the moment. I’m asking You for a delivery of powerful possibility thinking, so that I can have a clearer picture of how to cope with my current situation. I pray for the authentic experience of Your peace, presence and power.
