Power Verses…… ".....We're depending on God; He's everything we
need. What's more, our hearts brim with
joy since we've taken for our own
his holy name. Love us, God, with all
you've got....that's what we're
depending on. "

It’s quite amazing that the late
GEORGE CARLIN - an
American
stand-up comedian of
the 70's and 80's -
noted for his
black humour, and his highly
critical views on traditional Christian
values, could write in 1997,
after the death of Brenda, his first
wife of 36 years, something so eloquent,
and so appropriate to the times in which
we currently live.
However it’s a sad reflection on our
modern lifestyle that it takes an event
in someone’s life such as the death of a
loved one to articulate so powerfully a
true perspective on human society.
GEORGE
CARLIN wrote………
”The paradox of our time in history is
that we have taller buildings but
shorter tempers, wider motorways, but
narrower viewpoints........
We spend more, but have less, we buy
more, but enjoy less.......
We
have bigger houses and smaller families,
more conveniences, but less time.......
We have more degrees but less sense,
more knowledge, but less judgment, more
experts, yet more problems, more
medicine, but poorer health.......
We drink too much, smoke too much, and
spend too recklessly.......
We laugh too little, get angry to often,
stay up too late, and get up too
tired.......
We read too little, watch too much TV,
and pray too seldom.......
We have increased our possessions, but
reduced our values.......
We talk too much, love too seldom, and
hate too often.......
We've learned how to make a living, but
not a life.......
We've added years to our life but not
life to our years.......
We've been all the way to the moon and
back, but have trouble crossing the
street to welcome a new neighbour.
We’ve conquered outer space but not
inner space.......
We've done larger things, but not better
things.......
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted
the soul.......
We've conquered the atom, but not our
prejudice.......
We plan more, but accomplish less. We've
learned to rush, but not to wait. We
build more computers to hold more
information, to produce more copies than
ever before, but we communicate less and
less.
These are the times of fast food and
slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow
relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but
more divorce, fancier houses, but broken
homes. These are days of quick trips,
throwaway morality, one night stands,
overweight bodies, and pills that do
everything from cheer, to calm, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the
showroom window and nothing in the
stockroom. A time when technology can
bring this message to you in an instant,
but equally in the twinkling of an eye
you can choose either to share this
insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember
to….. spend more time with your
loved ones, because they are not going
to be around forever.
Remember
to….. speak a kind word to
someone who looks up to you in awe,
because that little person will soon
grow up and leave your side.
Remember
to ….. give a warm hug to the one
next to you, because that is the only
treasure you can give with your heart
that is priceless although it doesn't
cost a cent.
Remember
to say…..
"I love you" to your husband, your wife
and your loved ones, and mean it. A kiss
and an embrace will mend hurts when it
comes from deep inside of you.
Remember
to….. hold hands and cherish the
moment, because someday that person will
be gone.
Remember
to….. give time to love….. to
speak….. and to share the precious
thoughts of your mind. “
AND
ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Many people
will walk in and out of your life, but
only true friends will leave
footprints in your heart.
When we’re too wound up to wind down,
we need to find time daily, to take a
breath, to take time out, to find a
quiet spot and experience a God
Moment……..
Listen to the wisdom of Jesus
Christ:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out
on religion? Come to Me. Get away with
Me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll
show you how to take a real rest. Walk
with Me and work with Me…watch how I do
it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything or unfitting on
you. Keep company with Me and you’ll
learn to live freely and lightly."

Translation)
